Special Olympics Team USA has been out and about across San Diego practicing their sports.  Check out just some of the great photos from a few of the 16 different sports they are training in:

AQUATICS

SOFTBALL

SOCCER

These athletes are striving for excellence in their respective sport.

Karen and her teammates take to the track!

Take Special Olympics Team USA athlete Karen Dickerson, from Virginia, who has run in at least nine different marathons, including the Boston Marathon, and the Marine Corps Marathon, each in less than four hours! She has been hard at work on the track at San Diego State pushing herself to compete at Special Olympics World Summer Games ATHENS 2011.

Special Olympics Team USA basketball scrimmage

Then there’s Special Olympics Team USA basketball team from Florida.

Today they scrimmaged against some local players, who were not Special Olympics athletes, and they beat them 55 – 31.  These basketball teammates are working hard with their coaches as they strive to win a gold medal in Greece.

While striving to be the best they can be at their sport, Special Olympics Team USA gymnast Mark Medora reminded his teammates at practice today that “whether you come in 1st or 101st it doesn’t matter, as long as you finish!”

  1. Good Day Mandy,
I am a special olympics volunteer in my country and I wish to create a blog similar to yours that shows both our Nigerian fans and fans worldwide the progress our athletes are making regarding the SO competition coming up very soon. Please let me know of any type of help or tips you may be able to offer in creating my blog. Your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

  2. I think that we should be able to watch the special Olympics, yet our family can’t find it anywhere on the television. Please tell us where we can see it. We are great fans of these amazing young people

  4. Hello Mandy:)

I hope you are checking this regularly so you can get my reply before you leave for Greece. Can you tell me if the games this week will be streamed online, and if so, what website will the streaming be on?

Thank you, and have a great day!:)
