Special Olympics Asia Pacific has teamed up with leading sports content provider ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) and mobile media startup Affle, presenting a mobile application to generate donations in support of Special Olympics athletes.
‘Pinch A Dollar for Special Olympics’ calls on smartphone users to download the Pinch messaging application with 100% of the net revenue accumulated going to Special Olympics. Within the Pinch app, consumers are also able to donate in denominations of $10, $20, $50 Singapore dollars or any other unique amount.
The partnership was launched in Singapore, with Special Olympics Singapore athletes, Special Olympics Singapore President Dr. Teo-Koh Sock Miang, ESPN STAR Sports’ Paras Sharma, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Affle Founder and Chairman Anuj Khanna Sohum.
Key speaker International Global Messenger (2005-2009) and current Special Olympics Asia Pacific volunteer Hanako Sawayama talked about how Special Olympics helped her evolve from a budding bowler into a poised athlete spokesperson. Her accomplishments include speaking at events such as the 2010 Special Olympics World Winter Games Opening Ceremonies.
Hanako is proud to be a Special Olympian, because “we are given opportunities to train and compete in Olympic-type sports and we always do our best. We train as hard as any athlete.”
