Quick note of thanks for all the support after the Colbert Report and Bill Maher interviews. I hope the interviews can serve as catalysts to heighten the urgency around our messages of inclusion, acceptance and respect for people with intellectual diff-abilities.
I really appreciate both Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher, and their extremely talented staffs, for inviting me on their shows. One regret I have is that we weren’t able to have a Special Olympics athlete on the set to do the interview with me. I am always honored to speak on behalf of our Special Olympics movement but there will never be a spokesperson better for our organization than the athletes themselves. Hopefully it’s something we will make happen in the future.
Lots of you have been asking about the red shoelaces I was wearing. The shoelaces are actually a fundraiser that started in our Europe/Eurasia region to help raise money for our athletes. Here’s some more info and here’s the page to order some laces for yourself and two, three or 20 of your closest friends. (Note the handy currency converter on the right side of the page.)
