This week’s Friday Fun post includes a collection of stories and videos that are sure to put a smile on your face and start your weekend off right!
First, a catchy tune and a great tribute to Special Olympics athletes by Rob Anthony.
I just read this story today and couldn’t help but smile (and try to fight back a few tears). This year, Special Olympics launched a national campaign to collect handmade scarves to give to Special Olympics athletes during local Winter Games (2011 Special Olympics USA Scarf Project). Like many states across the US, Special Olympics Maine joined in, asking for 800 scarves, but expecting to receive about 100. Well, they got so much more than they could’ve ever imagined. Read the full story to hear about the magic of the Scarf Project for Special Olympics Maine.
Here’s a quick preview with words from a SO Maine staffer: “I never dreamed that a simple scarf could mean so much. For our athletes these scarves are going to be an outward display of support. They are going to wear them knowing that someone spent their time and energy creating it especially for them. The scarves are a reminder to our athletes that they are loved and cared about.”
Seriously, you’ll want to read the full story, I promise.
Finally, I thought I’d end today’s Friday Fun post with some great moments from past Special Olympics Winter Games competitions. I know a lot of states/regions are gearing up for their own competitions, so I thought we needed to rev up the excitement by reliving some fantastic memories.
