On Monday we celebrated the 40-day countdown to the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games. With every day that passes, we’re getting closer and closer to this exciting international event. Start gearing up for the Games with a few great stories from around the globe about individuals and teams who are getting ready to compete in Athens.
On March 13, the official uniforms for the World Games (plus, Team Hellas uniforms) were announced with a fun fashion show. Check out the video to see what styles are going to be rocked in Athens this year.
In case you’re curious, the uniform colors help to identify the different volunteer jobs at the Games:
Teal=Ceremonies and Spectator Services
Light Blue=Honored Guest Services
Light Green=Generic Uniform
Speaking of team uniforms… Check out the fantastic hats (and team gear) from Special Olympics Great Britain. Wonder how we get one of those Marks & Spencer Panama hats?!? Pretty Awesome. Makes me even more excited to see what all the teams are going to be wearing in Greece!
Finally, we must share this fantastic story from Special Olympics Team USA. Hawaii athlete Louie Perry isn’t just an accomplished runner; he’s also an AMAZING photographer. Louie, who will compete in the 1,500-meter, 3,000-meter and 1,600-meter relay in Greece, loves to take underwater shots and capture the beauty of his Hawaiian landscape. I think you’ll agree he’s pretty amazing. Read his full story and check out his pictures below. Beautiful!!
